Hi everyone,
We are now in San Diego, Ca, well actually we are in Chula Vista, a suburb of San Diego. The drive from Ventura took about an hour and a half longer than it should have due to the weather and a broken down truck on the 1-5 in downtown LA.
The rain was really coming down for awhile – I can see why they are worried about mud slides around Santa Barbara. I didn’t take too many photos today because of the rain. (Although the sun eventually did make an appearance.) The first photo below is from the drive here and the second is the view we have from the motel. We can see the harbor from here!

That’s about all I have for today. I will probably post more tomorrow.
As of this afternoon, we are now in Ventura, CA. Santa Barbara was a very nice place and we really enjoyed it but it was a little too much of a party town at the motel. (A little like Whistler actually.) We didn’t get much sleep at the motel so we decided to move. We are hoping this motel in Ventura will be a little quieter. We are a little farther from the beach – we can still see it but we are now about a block and a half away. We are located here.
I will also have to put on pants for the first time in awhile. The weather reports are saying we are in for about 5 days of rain. Oh well, I guess it had to happen sometime.
Belle is travelling very well. We have to argue with her to keep in the room now. I know, you are saying how can you argue with a cat???? Beleive me, with Belle it’s possible.
We have to go and hunt for a place to have a late lunch or early dinner this afternoon/evening. We have quite a few places to eat around us but they are all fast food restaurants. McDonalds just doesn’t thrill me that much… I will post more tomorrow. 🙂
I finally got my photos of the pelicans and I think I went a little overboard… Oh well, the locals say that it is very rare that there are so many pelicans in the area so I might as well document it as best I can. Here are some of the photos. There are some pictures of other things at the end of the pelican photos…

Some other shots from today:

(this is the view from where we had dinner tonight)

(I think this is a bird of paradise, but I could be wrong)

Hi all,
Here are a few pictures that we took today. We also saw some dolphins but they were moving to quick to get shots of. Just in case you don’t know, you can click on the photo to see the larger size. Hope you like them!

Okay, we still are not very good at the whole photo thing but we do our best. Here are some pics of the drive from Palm Springs to Santa Barbara. Be sure to click on the photo to see it at its full size.
I think the sign says it all
 Again, read the sign 😉
I just had to take a picture of this. Take a guess what is on this street... Crazy!
 Obviously the CNN tower
 The Whisky a Go Go
 Bel-Air and Sunset Blvd.
This was the rest stop after LA... 🙂
 Mike at the rest stop
People just pull over at the side of the highway to go to this wonderul beach.
I just thought this was cool.

- Nice don’t you think?
I will upload a few more photos later – either tomorrow or Saturday. The Pelicans are migrating and have just covered the beach. It is seriously cool and I will take some photos of them tomorrow. For some reason I am totally fascinated by them.
Hope you like the pics! 🙂
Neither Mike or I are very good at taking out the camera to snap those memories but here are a few pics of Palm Springs, the motel and the surrounding area. You can click on the photo to see the larger photo.

We forgot to take the camera downtown so you will have to take my word for it that it was very nice. 🙂
We are now in Santa Barbara, CA. We took the long way via Sunset Blvd. (Historic Route 66 – see picture) and Highway 1 after LA. We drove right through Malibu! Malibu was very nice and I think probably an excellent place to live if you could afford a house/condo on the beach. I will upload my photos tomorrow. If there are any good ones, that is. It’s a little difficult to take pictures from the car.
Our motel is a block from the ocean and we can see it from the balcony! So far it’s very nice. The pool is a little smaller than it looked on the Motel 6 website. Must have been a man who took the picture. 😉
Palm Springs was really nice but not close enough to the ocean. Now we are at the ocean! The ocean breeze and salt air – ahhhhhhhhh!
It’s time to take a walk on the beach so I will post more later. It’s currently 31°C, are you jealous yet?? 🙂
Hi everyone,
We are now in Palm Springs, CA. The Motel 6 is room is good – no funky smells and the carpet looks safe enough to walk on in bare feet. What can I tell you – I’m a little anal about carpets…
We will be staying here tomorrow night as well. Mike and I need to stop for a couple of days and there are worse places to stop than Palm Springs. 🙂 We were going to head to the Santa Barbara area on Monday but with the fires in the LA area we might end up staying here a little longer than we had originally planned. More than 10, 000 people have been ordered to evacuate so getting a motel room might be a problem. If you are interested, CNN is covering the story here.
Our room overlooks the pool too so it’s all good! Mike and I need to go get something to eat so I have to go now, but I will probably post more later.
As Mike just said, it’s got sun and a pool so if we are stuck here by fire, we are stuck here by fire! 🙂
Hi everyone,
We are now in a Motel 6 in Phoenix, CA. It was a short drive today from Yuma. We will be heading back to California tomorrow to stay in Palm Springs for a day or two. Yuma just wasn’t for us and I don’t think Phoenix is either. We need the ocean! We are thinking of heading down into Mexico but haven’t made up our minds yet. We both just want to find a place that we like to relax for a week or so.
We were stopped by the border patrol on the drive from Yuma to Phoenix. They weren’t interested in us though, they stop everyone. Still kind of cool though.
Mike and I having been eating alot of Mexican food since we have been on the road. Gotta love it! Most of it has been excellent. Although even the okay mexican food has been good!
Our drive tomorrow should be around 4 hours. Not too bad. Palm Springs is supposed to be nice, I will let you know what I think. 🙂
That’s all for now.

We are now in Yuma, AZ. It was a 4 1/2 hour drive from Santa Ana, CA. It was a hot drive and quite boring for most of it. We did see quite a few border patrols, especially along the fence separating the US and Mexico. The sand dunes along the highway were kind of cool, I wanted to stop and do a ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ type of thing but Mike wasn’t into it (no camels)…
The Motel 6 we’re staying in leaves a little to be desired but it is pet friendly. Ah, the things we do for Belle! The slippers will really come in handy for this place!!
It is very warm and my tan is coming back. Unfortunately, so far it is the same type of tan I had in the summer… You know, only on the front half, not on the back. Oh well, that’s what you get for sitting in the car in the sun. I’m sure when we find somewhere we want to stay, I will tan my back half. Mike’s tan is coming along very well as well. (On the front anyway…)
I’m not sure where we are headed tomorrow, either the Phoenix area or Tucson. If we go to Tucson, I want to also go to Old Tucson so I can show Mike the pond that they show in all the older movies like it is a raging river.
That’s it for now, I might have more later.
Love to everyone!
Diana
